Bluff City Spring Cleaning Tips
Spring is almost here, Bluff City! If you’ve spent the last season huddled inside, now’s a great time to open those windows and start thinking about spring cleaning. You might have your typical spring cleaning plan, but all too frequently homeowners can neglect a few important details.
Here are just a few tips to max out your spring cleaning from your floors to your shutters, so you can enjoy our favorite season in Bluff City.
Clean Your Windows For Spring
It’s normal to wake up in the middle of March and realize that the lousy view out your window isn’t because of winter weather–it’s because of a dirty window. Spring is a great opportunity to give your windows a deep clean. Get your awesome view back with the following steps.
-
If your window opens, fully open it and clean out any debris and dust in the sill or track. Try first to remove as much as you can with a dry cloth or small brush, then wash with warm soapy water and a cloth or brush to clean out the remainder. This will let your window operate more easily, and ensure your window can shut completely.
-
Spray down the window with a glass cleaner. You can use either a chemical cleaner bought off the shelf, or mix your own at home using two parts warm water and one part vinegar.
-
Swab the glass with a microfiber cloth. These cloths are best for cleaning glass and leave fewer streaks.
Don’t Forget to Clean your Window Treatments
A clean, spotless glass window is no good if the window treatment isn’t similarly clean.
For fabric window treatments such as drapes or curtains, cleaning can be an issue. For thick fabric window coverings, remove them from the wall and take them outdoors to shake and get rid of any loose debris, then leave them in the washer on a cold cycle and air dry them. For thinner fabrics, you’ll need to be more delicate in how you handle them, so hand-wash them in a sink or tub.
Plantation shutters might be the easiest window treatment when it comes to cleaning. Remove dust by going once-over with a microfiber cloth or barely damp rag. To spot clean, use a slightly wet cloth to take off the stain, then go over with a dry cloth.
Now is also an ideal time to think about switching up your window treatments. Check out the Sunburst Shutters NW Tennessee Idea Gallery to see stunning photos of ways a new window treatment can revitalize.
Pay Attention to Your Appliances
Your fridge, stove and washer and dryer are just as much furniture as appliances. Particularly with modern appliances like those made of stainless steel, looks may be equally as important as function. Clean all the nooks and crannies of your appliances, and make them look brand-new again.
Stainless steel appliances can be shined up using a solution made of 1 tsp. dish soap and 1 qt. of warm water, applied with a wet cloth and air-dried.
Don’t Neglect a Single Surface
You’re probably going to spend some time on your walls and floors when you do spring clean, but be sure to spread some attention around to some of those often neglected surfaces. These are just a couple of the spots that are easy to skip over when doing your spring cleaning:
-
All switches or handles that hands touch. This could be in the bathroom, doors, or anywhere else in your home.
-
Various shower surfaces, including the door, base, and soap ledge.
-
The tops of ceiling fans.
-
Under your appliances - especially the larger appliances like your fridge164 and dishwasher.
